Description of The Spirit of Caty Greene

Spirit of Caty Greene

The Spirit of Caty Greene is a great patriotic show for President’s day, Fourth of July or any occasion that celebrates the birth if our nation.

I portray Caty Greene, the widow of famous Revolutionary War hero, General Nathanael Greene. When the audience first meets Caty she is a frightened, young New England bride on the eve of the American Revolution. But the emboldened by her love for her husband and desire to experience her world, Caty soon decides not to stay at home but to join General Greene as at the dangerous Patriot Army encampments where she listens, learns and raises the Patriots spirits. This adventuresome and headstrong woman was ahead of her time.

At the dreary Valley Forge encampment she finds a friend in Martha Washington and soon becomes the confidant and fast friend of our founding fathers as they all endure the war for American freedom.

After the War the young couple settles in the wilds of Georgia. But tragically Caty becomes a young widow struggling to manage her family and a large Georgia plantation where she is wooed by many admirers including General Mad Anthony Wayne and inventor Eli Whitney who developed his cotton gin at her plantation.

But Caty finds her match and chooses to marry the childrens’ tutor. Soon their new lives take them to the wilderness of Cumberland Island, Georgia where she finally finds peace and happiness with her grandchildren, her young husband and their beautiful, sprawling estate.

In this dramatic performance, the audience takes a patriotic journey through the adventures of flamboyant Lady Caty Greene.
